Google Earth in Functional Math

Our first unit in math class is on maps.  Today we had a discussion about all of the different types of maps and all of the ways a map can be used.  We also experimented with typing our addresses (from memory) into Google Earth.  Below is the map that we worked with today.  We discussed the difference between intersecting and parallel streets.   This unit will also cover determining distance between 2 places, determining how much travel time to allot, even/odd address numbers being on opposite sides of the street, etc.  We will also tie these skills into our CBI's which will start in October.
